Assassin’s Creed Origins has been a great success and is often considered one of the best Assassin’s Creed game after Black Flag. Keeping this in mind, we have received information about a new Assassin’s Creed game called the Odyssey. This means that Ubisoft has gone back to their old roots about releasing a game per year and that is absolutely okay. If you remember, Assassin’s Creeed III and IV had just a year and few months but comparing to Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed IV was just a masterpiece.
A new Odyssey:
Sometimes, it is understandable that the Assassin’s Creed team gets pushed beyond belief and the result would be a horrible experience altogether. Remember Unity’s complete and utter failure during release? Despite being a beautiful game and a game that had their devs work hard, the business decision made the game an overall horrible experience in all the platforms but especially the PC. The problem is that PC version always were set to be demanded high and the problem with that is that not all the medium/low end PCs were kept on mind.
AC Origins was one of the most demanding games on PC and the reason for that is Ubi’s bad PC ports. They had some horrible experiences in the past with their releases and thus were prepared to face all the negativity with high system requirements. The math is simple, if you keep your system requirements high, the less you owe for the performance issues. The recommended system requirements were:
- CPU: Intel Core i7- 3770 @ 3.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz
- CPU SPEED: Info
- RAM: 8 GB
- OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
- VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD R9 280X (3GB VRAM with Shader Model
- 5.0 or better)
- SOUND CARD: Realtek Sound Card
- FREE DISK SPACE: 45 GB
This game can run on PS4 and Xbone but the requirements were so high that even the next generation consoles should and will only have this as basics. This being said, the game ran flawless despite the negativity surrounding it assuming that you have a gaming beast.
The ballad of bad PC ports:
So in this little chapter, we see how AC games would need some hefty machines to run through the requirements gate and how much of a grand gate it has been. AC Odyssey probably would follow the traditional Assassin’s Creed way as Ubi is going back to the yearly release formula with this, meaning that nothing much would change other than gameplay elements and story but the engine would remain the same. The requirements should be similar except the generation of your i7 and GPU to require a bit higher.
Despite all of this, Assassin’s Creed Origins was a good port, it is a pretty taxing game, yes but also at the same time was executed properly for the promised requirements. You now cannot blame the series as they are labeling that their games are for high end PCs and just that. Hopefully, things will change but highly doubt the change in AC Odyssey. Perhaps it is that time to go for a better rig overall? It’s worth as these games look so beautiful altogether.
