How to fix Disk Usage 100% in Windows 10?:

2023-10-07

A.      Services (svchost.exe):

svchost.exe can cause problems with the whole situation, however we often fail to understand what svchost.exe does and why it takes to so much disk usage, the possible is that it is performing a Windows update and you don’t know it yet. If you find out that your Windows update is going on, it is safe to say that be patient. Do not restart/modify the updates or in simple words, do not interfere the Windows update. Okay, now what? I have found out that Windows updates are stuck and not working. We got you covered, we have a brief article detailing what one needs to fix the problem over here.

B.      Cleanboot:

Clean boot would certainly help here. It is important to understand that if the problem Is caused by not a Windows service but some other software. If the problem is not caused by Windows service, then there is another service probably causing it. Problem might also be that you are transferring files on the computer to a USB, then it is obvious that you wait for the transfer to complete. The disk usage issues are caused when there is constant file activity within your computer, so perhaps disabling all the services together will fix the problem. We have elaborated the method about cleanboot over here. Please use this as a reference.

Still not able to fix? Ruling out the hardware issue, we can perform a complete tune up on your computer and help you resolve the issue via remote access. Chat or call us today.

ISSUE : “169.x.x.x / APIPA IP address problems”

2023-10-07

Reason:

This article outlines methods of resolving issues with a 169.x.x.x IP address. This address results from a built in feature of windows called automatic private IP address(APIPA). When your computer is unable to find a DHCP server the APIPA service will assign itself a 169.x.x.x IP address. According to Microsoft, the APIPA service checks for a DHCP server every five minutes.

Cause

If you're getting a 169.xxx.xxx.xx in your computer, means your computer probably didn’t communicate with your router. Below can be the probable reasons:

  •  Cable unplugged from either ends ( On the computer side or router side)
  • IP address not refreshed
  • Anti-Virus blocking the connectivity

Releasing the IP address

1. Click on Start and click Run.
2. Inside Run, type ipconfig /release to release the IP address.
3. Then after the IP address is released, type ipconfig /renew

Disabling the Ethernet Adapter

1. Click on Start and right click on My Computer. Then click on Manage.
2. Click on Device Manager and then Network Adapters
3. Under Network Adapters, right click on your Ethernet adapter and select Disable.
4. Wait approximately 5 seconds and right click on it and click Re-enable.
5. This restarts the DHCP client and tries to obtain an IP address from the Network.

Check the Ethernet cable

Sometimes a bad Ethernet cable can cause your system to receive a 169 IP address, try changing out the cable for a new one.

Disable antivirus and firewall applications

Disable/uninstall any external firewall, antivirus, or spyware programs (eg. Norton Internet Security, McAfee Security Center, Webroot).

Restarting the QoS packet scheduler Protocol

1. Click on Start and click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double click on Network Connections and then Local Area Connection.
3. Click on Properties and uncheck QoS Packet Scheduler.
4. Click Ok and repeat the process.

Restarting the DHCP service

1. Click Start and select Run.
2. Type services.msc in Run and click Ok.
3. Find DHCP service and right click on it. Click on Stop.
4. Reboot the computer.
5. When the computer boots up, click Start and select Run
6. Inside Run, type the following: netsh int ip reset log.txt
7. Click Ok.

System Restore

1. Open Start and click on Programs and then Accessories.

2. Then click on System Tools.
3. Click on System Restore and select a restore point when you were not experiencing this problem.
4. Restore your system.

Instead of disabling Ethernet or wireless N/w adapter,If it is Windows vista or Windows 7 we can try to uninstall and reboot the sys to check if sys automatically detects and install the N/w drivers.

How to fix Wireless issues.

2023-10-07

Wireless internet disconnects on a particular device? Well, there are a handfull of reasons why. This troubleshooting method focuses strictly on a particular disconnection. If your WiFi disconnects on only one laptop or smartphone, try the following troubleshooting method below:

Reason (And/or):

1. Wireless interference.

2. Distance from router.

3. Channels.

Understand that the interface looks different on each and every computer and doeesn't necessarily look the same.

On any Windows, press Windows key + R to bring up the Run command. In the run command, type CMD and this will bring up the Command Prompt,. After you open the command prompt, type ipconfig and press enter. You will see a bunch of numbers, focus on Default Gateway.

Default Gateway

(Number may vary)

Now, type this number on the address bar (On top where you type Google.com) and you will be able to reach your rourter's admin page. Once here, you will be prompted for a password and username. Type: Admin/password and it might let you in, if not try finding this on the router (Sticker etched on Router). Now look for the option to split the connection between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequency. This will give you two wireless networks in your home after you make the change. While you do this, your internet will disconnect for few seconds.

Didn't work? See how far are you from the router, closed doors, thick walls and many more stops your wireless from transponding to your devices. Be on high alert. Alternatively you can also play around with changing the wireless channels. Best channels are 1, 6, 11 and for 5ghz it is 146 and 161.

How to fix: touchpad stopped working after Windows 10 update.

2023-10-07

The crucial part of fixing the problem is to update the driver. To update the driver, first you need to go to the device manager.

1.  Open Run command and type devmgmt.msc and you will access the device manager.

2.  1.  The next step is to update the touchpad driver, but here’s the catch, don’t just click on the properties and update. You need to uninstall the driver first and then update.

2. Click on the Driver tab and then click uninstall. Remember, the moment you uninstall the touchpad driver, the touchpad stops working. This is trouble for people with intermittent problem and not permanent. So, get a mouse ready for backup.

3. After you uninstall the driver, you need to update the driver manually. DO NOT RESTART as if you do, your Windows update will update the incorrect driver for you and cause the touchpad not to work. We have made a tutorial here on how to update your driver using its hardware ID. Please follow that and get the issue resolved. Click here to find out how.

4. Now you are ready to restart the computer. Please restart as soon as possible and the issue will be resolved. If not, contact us via phone or chat and we will help you resolve the problem via our support.

Slow computer performance

2023-10-07

When the computer isn’t working at its usual optimized speed, responds slower than expected or does not respond at all, then, your computer is facing an issue as we call it ‘Slow Performance’ issue. The root cause can be a number of reasons, however, try the following steps to identify and fix the issue.

Update your computer

Microsoft often releases new updates for its Operating Systems. The updates usually contain bug fixes which protect your computer from being vulnerable to harmful threats or internal errors. [Updates also protect you from zero day vulnerabilities.]

Though operating systems by default have the Automatic installation option enabled for Windows update, check the following steps to verify.

For Windows 7, open Control Panel click on System and Security then click on ‘Windows Update’. In the Windows update window, click on ‘Check for updates’ and then the button check for updates. Once the checking is done, click on ‘Install updates’.

For Windows 8/8.1, press on Windows key + I and click on Change PC settings. From the menu, click on Update and Recovery, Windows update and Check for update. Once the checking is done, click on ‘Install updates’.

For Windows 10, press on Windows key + I and click on Update and security settings.  Next click on Windows update from the left menu and click on Check for updates. Windows 10 would now automatically download and ‘Install the updates’.

To add more to windows updates, have a routine practice of checking your browser versions.  Browsers are the gateway to major virus and malware attacks.

Third option that you have to keep a keen eye on is ‘Drivers’. Modern operating system contains the facility to update the drivers on its own, yet it is wise to check for updates when the computer performs slower even when lesser programs are running.

Reboot

Rebooting the computer solves major number of issues. When a computer is slow, usually it’s the tasks which get estranged from each other. The responses to your commands would queue up and be processed slower. Sometimes the hardware components might have over heated and that would have had a direct effect on computer’s performance. Modern day computers have developed a way of killing these blockades, yet a start from scratch now and then helps out the computer.

Hard Drive space and Disk Defragmentation

In Hard drives particularly, the partition in which the operating system is installed should have enough free space with respect to usage. Sometimes insufficient disk space too could cause issue, while other concerning options meet the criteria.

Fragmentation of data on disk can make computer strain a lot. Disk Defragmentation option would ensure rearranging the data in an effective way.

For Windows 7, click on All Programs> Accessories, under accessories click on System Tools and Disk defragmenter. It might request you to type in the Administrator password and then hit Defragment. The Defragmentation process possibly would take hours to finish.

For Windows 8, the option is enabled by default so if you haven’t changed any setting, a scheduled check will happen on the computer to optimize the drives. If you still want to check the defragmentation manually, Press Windows key + Q or open the Charms bar to search “Defragment” and from the result choose the option Defragment and optimize your drives. A new window will open up with all the details regarding drives in it, and you only have to defrag if the drive is more than 10 percent fragmented.

For Windows 10, it’s pretty much the same as Windows 8. The only difference is that you can search for defragmenter in the Start menu.

Scan for Viruses and Malwares

Vital Information Resources Under Siege (VIRUS) can also be a reason. Unlike other concerns, this is something serious to be considered. A virus or malware could have been created for various purposes but their consistent side effect would be to take a toll on performance of computer. Always use Antivirus or Anti-Spyware software to scan your computer.

The best method to handle the situation would be to avoid it in the first place. Periodically scan the computer and prevent visiting of suspicious websites. Beyond precautions there are still chances of computer being infected and that being the reason for the slow speed of your computer.

Basic troubleshooting steps for Internet Connectivity

2023-10-07

Below specified steps can be used if you get the following error message:

  • No internet connection
  • Unable to go online
  • No network found
  • Issues with Network adapter

1.     Verify that the network adapter is being seen by the operating system:

Check Microsoft Windows Device Manager and look for an icon that appears as Network Adapters and see if the network card listed in Mini-PCI information table is installed:

1.     Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.

2.     Click the Hardware tab and press the Device Manager button. The network card should appear under Network Adapters.
Note: If the card has a exclamation mark over a yellow background, then this is an indication that the card is experiencing a problem. Go to Driver download step 5.

2.     Verify that the radio is enabled:

·          It is possible to disable the transmitter of the wireless card without Device Manager showing any problems. Most wireless cards will put an icon in the system tray (the line of icons in the lower right corner of your screen). Right click this icon and it may have a menu option to enable/turn on the wireless radio.

Use the function keys: Press Fn+F2 (This will vary for every brand and model, please check the product manual).

3.     Check the SSID (the Network name of the wireless network you are trying to connect to) and security settings:

Note: The SSID and WEP key are case sensitive.

·         The connection will fail if the SSID is incorrect.

·         The most common security setting is the use of a WEP key. This involves using a 5 digit alphanumeric key for 64bit encryption or 13 digit alphanumeric key for 128bit encryption. Some systems will only allow a hexadecimal (0-9, A-F) key of either 10 (64bit) or 26 (128bit) characters. It may be necessary to convert your alphanumeric key to a hexadecimal one in order to connect properly.

Note: It may also be necessary to temporarily disable the security features in order to check for basic connectivity.

4.     Ping the loopback address:

1.     Click Start, select Programs, select Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

2.     Type the command, ping 127.0.0.1. This will send a message to the internal network stack on the machine. You should see a response like this:

Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 127.0.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milliseconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

5.     Verify that the hardware is functioning using diagnostics.

·          Run diagnostics on the wireless card.

Cryptolockers/ransomware causes and how to be safe

2023-10-07

Most of the Cryptolockers are caused by our own mistakes and it is easy to fall victim for the phishing email that they receive from the hacker.

Here’s an example of how an email distinguishes itself as a genuine package delivery but has the file that corrupts and locks your files:

If you are careless, it merely takes a minute to lock all your files and you’ve to pay the ransom which gives its name the RansomWare to unlock all your files.

If I pay the ransom, would they return my files? Well, not necessarily no! In many cases, the hacker will take your money and would leave you clueless. It is tough to recall a person with success getting their files back from these hackers and they automatically chain up emails to your contacts on Outlook and this is how it spreads. These files hijack your Outlook contacts and your email contacts.

To avoid all the chaos, just simply see who the email has been sent from and do a little reverse look up. In other words, the above email claims that it is from FedEx but if you look closely, the sender of the email is iceweb.net and this doesn’t look like FedEx. This is your first alert. Second, if you have not ordered any package, you shouldn’t be receiving one. This reminds me of the famous 419 scams that are being sent from mostly Nigeria claiming that you’ve won lottery when you did not buy one.

Ransomwares are inevitable. We all have received them via email, most of these are filtered by your email provider such as Google, Yahoo and AOL but a few pass by their security gates and will reach you. With proper caution you can easily bypass their cynical intentions.

I am affected by a ransomware/crpytolocker, what should I do? The answer is pretty much nothing, however it is not the end of the world. Most of the cryptolockers haven’t been decrypted but a handful of them has been. You can visit nomoreransom.org to check if you’ve a decrypter available for your situation. There are handful of them which you can use to solve the issue. You can simply lookup the name of your ransomware on Google and find it on the internet with some basic Google searches and forum results.

As said earlier, it is prevention that will keep you safe from all these issues; I highly recommend double/tripe checking before you download any attachments that may cause mayhem. Good luck and safe browsing! You can alternatively call us as well for further help in reference to these and we’ll provide our best effort support.

How to fix Keyboard not working or partially working (Only some keys/half of the keyboard).

2023-10-07

There are multiple solutions for the very problem, I am going to suggest some of the fixes that will fix the issue. As a user of Acer Aspire A515 51G 53JT, I tried a couple of these methods and they seem to to be shutting off keys include 1, 3, -, q, t, p, ], j, 3, 5, right arrow and sometimes left and up arrow. The pattern seems to random and there is no regular pattern and either one or multiple keeps failing.

Fix 1:

Check if the driver is installed correctly, although you do not want to change the installed and working driver in any way, make sure that the driver is installed properly. If your keyboard suddenly stops working, it might because of the driver altogether.

If the driver is not installed, make sure that your Windows is up to date. To do this, press Windows key and I and check if the updates are properly installed.

And when you click the updates, make sure that it is up to date:

This will fix the problem if it is a driver issue, if the updates are not installed or troubled, make sure to install them again by pressing the check for updates.

Fix 2:

The problem will be due to a power surge/distribution causing this, to fix that, make sure that you remove the power cable (Mandatory) and then perform an internal battery reset. This will only work on Acer laptops.

  •          Unplug AC power adapter.
  •          Locate the battery reset pinhole on the bottom of the computer.
  •          Insert a sml paperclip in the battery reset pinhole.
  •          Hold the reset button for 4 seconds. Let the computer sit for 5 minutes with no power.
  •          Connect the AC adapter and power on the system

Fix 3:

Tracking the hardware ID of the device and then reinstall the keyboard. To get the detailed step by step instructions, please follow this article:

Issue: “Can't I find windows 8.1 update in the Store?”

2023-10-07

Root Cause:

You might need the latest updates from Windows Update

Although the Windows 8.1 update is downloaded and installed from the Store, your PC needs Windows updates, KB 2871389 and KB 2917499, before Windows 8.1 becomes available to you in the Store.

If you’re using Windows Update to get automatic updates, KB 2871389 and KB 2917499 will be downloaded and installed automatically.

If you’ve turned off automatic updates, if your PC is new and automatic updates haven't been downloaded yet, or if you’d rather not wait for Windows Update to do this automatically, you can go to Windows Update and install KB 2871389 and KB 2917499 manually.

Resolution:

To install the required Windows Update

  1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Windows Update.

  1. Tap or click Check for updates now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your PC. If you don't have automatic installation of important updates turned on, you might need to tap or click Turn on recommended settings before you can check for updates.

  1. If updates are found, tap or click the message telling you how many updates will be installed automatically. In the list of updates, look for one that includes (KB2871389) or (KB2917499) in the name (the exact name will vary, depending on your system.).

  1. Tap or click Install to install all the recommended updates in the list.

  1. When the updates are done, you’ll need to restart your PC. If you have any desktop apps open, save your work and close them before restarting. To restart, swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen and move the mouse pointer up), tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Restart.
  2. After you’ve restarted your PC, on the Start screen, tap or click Store, and you should see the Windows 8.1 update.

Fix for Windows needs more space issue.

2023-10-07
Windows updates are sometimes a choire, so the plan is to route the updates to an external USB drive. This is quite easy if you follow the below sets of instruction.

Step 1: Free up space

Although you’re using an external storage device, your hard drive still requires space to install the update. Here’s how to make some:

  1. In More space needed for update, select Free up space.

Clear space with an external storage device.

  2. This opens Storage in Settings, which shows how much space is available on your device. Select your C: drive to see what’s using the most space and to clear it by deleting nonessential files. (For tips, see Free up drive space in Windows 10).
  3. Return to More space needed for update and select the refresh  icon next to the Free up space button. If you deleted enough files, a green check mark will appear next to the hard drive
    Internal hard drive icon
     icon.

Step 2: Connect an external storage device

  1. Connect your external storage device and wait until you see it in the drop-down list under Step 2 (you might need to select the refresh   icon). If the external storage device has enough free space, a green check mark will appear next to the storage drive  icon.
  2. Select Continue to finish installing the update.

If you don’t want to use an external storage device, you’ll need to free up more space on your hard drive.

  1. In More space needed for update, select Free up space.

Clear space from your hard drive

  2. This opens Storage under Settings, which shows how much space is available on your device. Select your C: drive to see what’s using the most space and to delete nonessential files. (For tips, see Free up drive space in Windows 10.)
  3. Return to More space needed for update and select the refresh  icon next to the Free up space button. If you deleted enough files, a green check mark will appear next to the hard drive
    Internal hard drive icon
     icon.
  4. Select Continue to finish installing the update.

How to fix 404 Page not found

2023-10-07

A 404 error while trying to reach a website/webpage means the page you are trying to reach is unavailable on the server. These error messages could be customized by the website owners, many are delivered in a creative way. This error message is not restricted to any platforms of operating system or browsers.

Usually this error occurs when the websites URL has errors while typing or the particular webpage is moved or removed which should be known to the user. Also, when a website moves its page and if the old link is not re-routed to new page, this error could occur. Sometimes the requested file or webpage could be down for maintenance, upgrades or other reasons.

These are the following steps that could be tried to verify the issue:

Refresh the webpage by clicking on refresh icon on the respective browsers or by tapping ‘F5’ function key.

Verify the website URL for spelling errors

Search for the webpage in search engines which would help you to re-verify on spelling errors or it could possibly re-direct you to the new webpage

Try to clear your browser Cache. If you can access that particular webpage from other devices that are connected in the same network, then try to clear out the Cache and Cookies on the browser.

If the website is accessible from other networks but not in a particular one, then try to change the DNS servers.

If all steps fail, contact website to validate the information.

Automatic restarts

2023-10-07
Have you ever experienced the computer shutting down abruptly while working on it? There is quite a lot of computers facing this problem when it's set to restart on system failure. An effective option to cover up the issue would be to disable the automatic restart option and ofcourse its recommendable.

In Windows 7, click on Start then right click on Computer and choose the option ‘Properties' from the menu. In the Properties window, choose the option Advanced system settings from the menu on the left hand side. In the new window that pops-up, choose the tab Advanced and click on the button Settings under the option Startup and Recovery. Again a new window would pop-up; uncheck the box next to ‘Automatically restart' that you will find under System failure.

In Windows 8/8.1/10, press Windows key + X then click on Control Panel from the menu. In Control Panel choose System Maintenance and System. In System, click on Advanced System Settings and choose the Advanced tab. In Advanced tab click on Settings button which is under Startup and Recovery. In the new windows unselect the check box next to Automatically Restart that you will find under System failure.
Also the Windows Memory Diagnostic can be run to check on the issue. Click on the "Start" button and then click on "Memory".

How to connect Wireless Printer on a PC.

2023-10-07
Requirements

1. You've a wireless printer
2. A computer that has wireless connectivity.

If so, you're connecting the computer to a wireless network, for example "Belkinhome1" you need to connect your printer to the same Belkinhome1 and once your wireless printer and computer are on the same network.

Cool, now open the run command and type control printers and this will give you an option to open the printer menu. Now click on add a printer and your printer will be listed in the list of printers available for you to connect. Select the printer and go next and next and next until finish.

Everything is now set up, try to do a test print and things will and should go smooth from now on. Let me know if this has worked.

How To: “Installation of Windows 8.1”

2023-10-07

Resolution:

Turn on your PC so that Windows starts normally, insert the DVD, shut down, and then restart your PC. You might have to press any key to boot from the DVD.

If you restart your PC and your current version of Windows starts, you might have to open a boot menu or change the boot order in your PC's BIOS or UEFI settings so that your PC boots from the media. To open a boot menu or change the boot order, you'll typically need to press a combination of keys (such as F2, F12, Delete, Esc, etc.) immediately after you turn on your PC. For instructions on changing the boot order for your PC, check the documentation that came with your PC or go to the manufacturer's website.

If your current version of Windows still starts, try again by waiting until Windows asks you to sign in, shut down completely, and then restart your PC again.

How to install the front Audio Plugs?

2023-10-07

Introduction:

The most sophisticated cases, besides having front USB ports, also have plugs for microphone (mic in) and loudspeakers (or ear phones), a feature makes installing a microphone or ear phones in a PC very easy, since we don't need to take the case and look for a place into which install such peripherals (or even loudspeakers).

Detail of case with front USB ports and on-board audio jacks.

To use those plugs, your motherboard needs to have an integrated sound card (in other words, on-board sound). The installation, however, it is not as simple as it seems, and we will explain in today's column how it has to be done.

A group of seven wires leaves the plugs. At the end of each wire there is a small black connector, and, in this connector, we can read the function of the wire. You will find the following wires: Mic In (or Mic Data), Ret L, Ret R, L Out (or Ear L), R Out (or Ear R) and two Gnd (or Ground). If you watch carefully, the Ret L and L Out wires are connected to each other, the same happens between the Ret R and R Out wires. If your case also has an input plug (line in), there will be two other wires: Line In L and Line In R.

Wires of the front plugs of the case.

You have to look for the place of installation of such wires in your motherboard. This place is indicated as Audio, External Audio, Ext Audio, Front Audio, F Audio, or something like that. This place consists of a 9-pin connector, and there are two jumpers installed, making the connection of some of these pins. The exact position of this connector varies depending on the motherboard model, and you will need its manual to precisely locate it.

Place on the motherboard where the case wires have to be installed.

To install the wires, the first step is to understand the pin numbering system of the motherboard connector. There are nine pins in the connector, but the connector is considered a 10-pin one because one of the pins was removed (pin 8). The jumpers connect pins 5 and 6 and 9 and 10. As there is the space without a pin (pin 8), it is easy to discover the numbering of the other pins. Notice that the pins are oddly numbered to one side of the connector (1 to 9) and evenly numbered to the other (2 to 10).

Motherboard audio header pin-out.

Remove the jumpers. The connection of the wires must be made the following way: Mic In to pin 1; Gnd to pins 2 and 3; R Out to pin 5; Ret R to pin 6; L Out to pin 9, and Ret L to pin 10.

NO POST / Power General troubleshooting

2023-10-07

Note: Not all computers have beep codes, some of the newer computers have LED's that light up that indicate the error or have a sound file to indicate the error.

A POST failure can be caused by any of the following situations.
1. New hardware conflicting with old hardware
2. Bad or failing hardware device.
3. Other hardware issue. (electrical shorts or incompatibilities.)

Warning: Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of electrostatic discharge and its potential hazards. ALWAYS ground yourself and your equipment. Ensure your computer is unplugged!

Note: Make sure your computer is turning on, if you press the power button and nothing happens (no lights, no sound, no fans, etc.) then this issue is not a NO POST but is an power related issue.

If any new hardware has been recently added to the computer, remove that hardware to make sure it is not the cause of your issue. If after removing the new hardware your computer works it's likely the computer is either not compatible with the new hardware or a system setting needs to be changed to work with the new hardware device.

1. Remove everything from the back of the computer except the power cable. Turn on the computer and see if it beeps normally. If the computer has never beeped also connect a monitor to the computer to see if any change occurs.

2. Check the stand-offs (the metal or plastic insulators) that keep your motherboard off and away from the case or housing. Ensure they are not grounding or shorting the motherboard out. If they are metal, ensure that the cardboard insulators are present. Ensure the motherboard is not grounding out to the case also at any other point.

3. If you are receiving a sequence of beeps consult your motherboard manual or the motherboard manufacturer's website for a listing of different beep codes and their explanation. These beep codes are meant as a method of quickly identifying what computer component is failing or bad.

4. Check to make sure power cables are not grounding or shorting to the case or other components. Ensure all ends are connected properly, securely, and snugly.

5. Make sure all fans are running in the computer. If a fan has failed (especially the heat sink fan for the CPU) your computer could be overheating and/or detecting the fan failure causing the computer not to boot.

6. If you were unable to determine by the beep code what is failing or do not have a beep code disconnect the IDE cables from the CD-ROM, Hard Drive, and Floppy drive from the Motherboard. If this resolves your post failure, attempt to connect each device one at a time to determine which device and or cable is causing the issue.

7. If the above recommendations still have not resolved the irregular POST, start disconnecting your expansion riser cards, these are the cards that are not essential to system operation. Break your motherboard down to the bare basics. Disconnect your floppy drive, CD/DVD ROM, and hard drives Your motherboard basics should have just the following: video card, RAM, motherboard and PSU (power supply unit). If this resolves the issue or allows the computer to post connect one card or device at a time until you determine which card or device is causing the issue.

8. If you continue to receive the same problem with all the above hardware removed attempt to disconnect the CPU and RAM from the Motherboard. Once done insert the CPU and RAM back into the computer to see doing this resolves your issue.

9. Ensure your PSU is of the correct size and power requirements for your system. Many newer motherboards and graphics cards are power intensive. Some newer graphics cards require their own separate power supplies. An underpowered PSU, will also cause system failure. Most new systems will not run well with less than 450W PSUs.

10. If after doing all of the above recommendations you continue to have the same issues unfortunately it is likely that you have bad or incompatible components, in particular RAM. Ensure your RAM is compatible with the motherboard. Many newer motherboards are very specific about what RAM sticks they will accept. Don't mix and match RAM speeds, type, or size.

11. If you have determined your components are compatible, then you have faulty hardware. The next step would be to test each component separately. You will need to find a working motherboard to test RAM with a diagnostic program like Memtest 86+. A faulty motherboard will need to be simply replaced. A bad PSU can only be replaced. Don't attempt to repair a bad or failing PSU. This is quite dangerous. High voltages and hazardous chemicals are present in PSU capacitors and other components – even when main power is disconnected. You can only replace a bad PSU.

12. If you keep getting the same failures after replacing CPUs, motherboards, and PSUs, there is a small chance that one of the peripheral cards is not compatible and causing damage or the card is conflicting with an internal integrated component. If you have integrated video or sound, you need to turn these off before using external cards.

How-To “Account setup after windows installation”

2023-10-07

If you already have a Microsoft account

  1. Enter your Microsoft account email address and password. If you have more than one Microsoft account, you'll need to choose one.

For more info, see Which email address should I use for my Microsoft account?

  1. We'll send a security code to the alternate email address or phone number you've set up for this account, and you'll need to enter that code to verify that you're the account owner. This helps us protect your account and devices when you access sensitive info. If you don't have alternate contact info set up for the account yet, you'll be asked to provide it now.

If you signed in to your PC using a Microsoft account before you installed Windows 8.1, then you might not see this step.

If you want to create a Microsoft account

  1. Click Create a new account.
  2. Next, you'll be asked to choose an email address you'd like to use as a Microsoft account. This can be any email address you use, and isn't limited to just addresses that come from Microsoft. Enter the email address that you use the most. We'll use it to set up the Mail and People apps for you with email and contacts that you already use every day.
  3. Enter the password you'd like to use, and fill in the rest of the info, including your first name, last name, and your country or region.
  4. Next, you'll be asked to provide an alternate email address or phone number where we can reach you by email, phone, or text message (SMS). This helps us protect your account and devices whenever you access sensitive info using this account. After you enter this info, we'll send a message to you containing a security code, and you'll need to enter that code to verify that you're the account owner.

If you want to keep using a local account

Windows 8.1 is designed to be used with a Microsoft account, so we recommend that you give it a try. Simply put, a Microsoft account is the glue that holds together so many useful features of the new Windows. Without one, you won't be able to, for example, get new apps from the Windows Store, automatically sync your settings and documents between PCs, back up your photos to the cloud so you can get to them from anywhere, or see all your contacts from multiple email and social networking accounts together in the People and Mail apps.

But if you're sure you want to use a local account instead, click Create a new account, and then on the new account page, click Continue using my existing account.

    • If the above still does not solve the problem, a service call may be required.
  • Cable Modem PC Light is Out

    • If the light on the back of your computer (next to the Ethernet cable connection) and/or the light labeled "PC" on your cable modem is out while your PC is on and your operating system loaded, your network card may not be functioning correctly.
    • To troubleshoot your cable modem connection, try the following:
    • Verify that the Ethernet cable (also called "RJ-45" network cable) is properly plugged into both the cable modem and to the back of your computer. The Ethernet cable looks like a slightly enlarged phone cord. If the cable looks securely plugged in and the light on the back of your computer or your cable modem is still out, try unplugging the cable and plugging it back in from the back of the computer and the back of the cable modem. Try running the diagnostic program that came with your network card, if available. Reset or powercycle (turn off, then on) your cable modem. Shut down and restart your computer.
    • If the above still does not solve the problem, please contact Technical Support.
  • Cable Modem Light is Blinking

    • If you are having problems receiving email or browsing the Web, you should verify that your cable modem is successfully communicating with the broadband network.
    • Your cable modem owner's manual should describe the functions to which the lights on the front of your modem correspond. Look at the front of your cable modem to ensure that the cable connection indicator light is blinking. Depending upon the type of modem you are using, this light may be labeled as status, online or cable.
    • If the corresponding light is blinking, you may need to reset the modem. To do so, press the "reset" button on the front or back of your modem. If your modem does not have a reset button, you will need to powercycle (turn off, then on) your modem.
    • If, after one or two minutes, the light on your cable modem continues to blink, a service call may be required.
  • Cable Modem Light is Orange

How To:“Things to Do before upgrading to windows 8.1”

2023-10-07

System requirements:

We recommend that you download and run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant to check if your PC meets the system requirements for Windows 8. If you are running Windows XP, you need to have Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed to use Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant.

Still be sure to review the system requirements for Windows 8.1 before buying the Windows 8.1 DVD. We also recommend that you visit your PC manufacturer's website for info about updated drivers and hardware compatibility.

Here is a summary of the system requirements:

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster

RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

Free hard drive space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Check compatibility of programs and devices:

The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will check if your programs and devices are compatible with Windows 8, but you can check Windows 8.1 compatibility info for a specific program or device (including info from community forums) in the Windows Compatibility Center, or contact the program or device manufacturer.

Most programs created for earlier versions of Windows will work in Windows 8.1, but some older programs might run poorly or not at all. There are several things you can try to fix compatibility problems. For more info, see Get your apps and devices working in Windows 8.1.

Drivers for basic device functionality are available "in-box" (meaning, as part of the Windows image). This includes drivers for storage, networking, input, and display. These drivers allow you to complete the Windows installation and connect to the Internet. You can get more drivers from Windows Update or from the device manufacturer once you're online. For more info, see Download and install drivers.

Back up your data:

Since you won't be able to keep any files, settings, or programs when you upgrade from Windows Vista or Windows XP, we recommend you back up all files and locate any program installation discs (or purchase confirmation emails) prior to updating.

You can transfer files before you upgrade by copying them to an external hard drive, USB flash drive, or CD, and then moving them to the location you want on your new PC. Be sure that the drive or disc has enough space to hold everything you want to move. If don't want to use an external hard drive, USB drive, or CD, you can move your files to One Drive to have all your files in one place and have the latest version on your PCs. For more info, see Getting started with One Drive.

After you upgrade to Windows 8.1, you'll need your original program installation discs, or purchase confirmation emails if you purchased programs online, to reinstall your programs. Insert the program CD or DVD into your PC or follow the directions in the confirmation email.

If you've been using Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, or the version of Windows Mail that came with Windows Vista, your email messages and contacts can be imported into Outlook.com using the Mail Migration add-on. For more info, see Import email from a desktop app.

Before buying Windows 8.1:

You can buy Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Pro on a DVD from a participating retailer (DVDs of the upgrade aren't available in all countries and regions). You can see current pricing on the Compare and decide about Windows 8.1 webpage.

Determine if your PC can run a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows

After you open the Windows 8.1 packaging, you'll see two installation discs: a 64-bit version of Windows and a 32-bit version of Windows.

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a PC's processor (also called a CPU), handles info. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit version. To install a 64-bit version of Windows, you need a CPU that's capable of running a 64-bit version.

To see whether a PC running Windows Vista is capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, do the following:

Browser Hijack – Google Chrome

2023-10-07

Step 1:

We need to see the reason for the pop up. So, in simple words, the pop up might be caused by a malicious extension. So the first thing we do is to press the three dots on the right side top of your Chrome and click More Tools and then Extensions.

Step 2:

No malicious extensions? No problem, the problem might not be just with such extensions. A Google Chrome reset is required in such cases if your Chrome was a victim of Browser hijack.

So click the three dots again to bring up Settings this time and once you click Settings, a new window opens up and from where you need to click on Advanced from the left side and press Reset.

Before you do reset, understand that upon reset, you will be clearing your cookies which means you will be logged out of websites that has your cookie information so you need to log back innit.

Good luck and remember, do not call the number of such incidents where you’ll end up calling a scam company.
